Last year, Whit Andrews joined VTP as literary manager, organizing and running our first "Pen is a Mighty Sword" new play competition. He is currently gearing up for the 2005 competition which starts accepting new, unproduced, full-length work after January 1 until June 30.

Whit has worked in theatre for 35 years as a director, producer, administrator, playwright, actor and designer. He has directed over 85 productions, acted in 100 and produced 185 more. He recently completed a 10 year stint as Executive Director of The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, one of America’s largest community theatres.

Prior to heading home to North Carolina in 1993 he spent 16 years as Producing Director of THEATREWORKS at the University of Colorado/Colorado Springs. At THEATREWORKS, he founded the Playwrights’ Forum Awards, one of the premiere short play competitions in America. The Forum received thousands of submissions from around the world. It presented 28 world premieres, including Tall Tales, the first completed segment of The Kentucky Cycle, winner of the 1992 Pulitzer Prize. He now lives in Rural Hall, NC and is a management consultant to non-profits and the arts.
