The Virtual Theatre Project (VTP) is a global theatre company dedicated to identifying, developing and staging new work.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
VTP actively seeks new work by encouraging writers, directors, actors, and producers with ideas, scripts, and works-in-progress, to submit letters of inquiry. Yearly we conduct "The Pen is a Mighty Sword" new play contest. The 2005 PEN winner, A Yankee Trader by Kato McNickle opens August 5, 2006 at El Portal Forum Theatre in the NOHO Theatre District of Los Angeles. The show is scheduled to run through September 10 and will be followed by a Reading Series of the plays receiving Honorable Mentions in 2005.

The 2004 winner, Gray Area by John Ahlin premiered in Los Angeles on April 9, 2005 at 2100 Square Feet for a six-week run. Recently, Gray Area was read in New York at The Barrow Street Theatre. Shawn Ross and Lauren McCormick, both VTP members, recreated their roles for this backer's audition which included the playwright, John Ahlin in the role of Keith.

Our mission is to stimulate thought that leads to action; to entertain, to educate, and to promote live and audio theatre as exciting, viable art forms.

VTP has elected to exist as a “virtual theatre” so that it may bring theatre to any part of the globe, by collaborating with artists and theatres round the world. We do not support physical space, but rather find the space appropriate to the artists and the work to be produced.

We are committed to creating opportunities for actors, playwrights, directors, designers and technicians to work in service of theatre in general and new play development in particular.

We provide educational opportunities in the form of apprenticeships and stipends to young people studying to enter into one or more aspects of professional theatre.

We also sponsor an "Adopt-An-Artist" program which provides project support to individual writers, actors, and designers pursuing a specific projects.
