The 2004 PEN IS A MIGHTY SWORD winner is John Ahlin for his play, Gray Area, in which the North meets the South in a wonderfully funny, provocative, modern-day clash between rivals who have never met one another outside the realm of comfortable, predictable, stereotyped thinking. In the verbal fisticuffs and physical hijinks that ensue, reality blurs as neat categories crumble under the weight of human contact.
The Virtual Theatre Project premieres Gray Area in Los Angeles on April 9 at 2100 Square Feet for a six week run. Directed by Ian Vogt the ensemble cast features Charles Carroll, Lauren McCormick, Michael Monks and Shawn Ross with set design by Mark Fuller, light design by Jonathan Christman, and sound design by Marc Solomon.
John has spent 30 years in theater as an actor, writer, director and producer.
He has recently authored a version of Gullivers Travels, in addition to NEM; winner of the In-House 10-minute Play Competition at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Other produced plays include: "DEATH DOWN EAST, WHAT THE MORPH BROTHERS DID" and "THE BIG Ol' BRAIN SHOW".
As an actor John has appeared on Broadway, at many leading regional theaters, in a dozen independent feature films and on television in Law and Order: SVU, Third Watch and Education of Max Bickford, among others.
Born in the South and raised in the North, John lives in New York City with actress wife Jean Tafler and daughter Charlotte.
