VTPs collaboration with Wake Forest University provided Wake Forest with 7 guest artists the week of January 13, 2005. Kim Terrell, founder and artistic direct of VTP, Kay Stratton, Heidi Mages, Tom Paradise and Shawn Ross, actors currently living and working in Los Angeles and playwrights, Kato McNickle and Laura Harrington, winners of the 2004 Pen is a Might Sword new play competiton.

At Wake Forest for the readings of "In Search of a Better Life With Elvis" by Kato McNickle and "N" by Laura Harrington, the guest artists lectured in a number of theatre classes, taught a master classes and provided students opportunities to learn first hand from professional actors and playwrights.

The week long event was joined by a number of theatre professionals from the Winston-Salem community. Whit Andrews, the literary manager of VTP, read Napolean in "N" and local actor, Jim McKeny lent his considerable talent to "N" as well. Jeryl Prescott Sales, a professional actress and teacher at the North Carolina School of the Arts, played Africa/Momma and Nick Zayas, a member of the ACT company a the Winston-Salem Little Theatre played Toleo in McNickle's "In Search of a Better Life with Elvis".

Wake Forest students and faculty also contributed considerable time and energy to this forum for new work. Associate Professor, Frank Ludwig shared his acting talent and Assistant Professor and musician Leah Roy provided the drumming and Ray Collins, currently teaching at Wake directed N,. Several Wake Forest students worked along side professional actors in the productions as well as stage managing and running crew.

This successful collaboration among professional, community and student members of the theatre highlights the fact that theatre is a collective art form. In fact, our oldest and most enduring collective art form.
