VTP's, Sean Mahon, heads to Broadway in Conor McPhearson's new play, "The Seafarer", opening at the Booth Theatre on November 15, 2007.
Sean was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, so he looks forward to making his Broadway Debut in Conor McPhearson's The Seafarer, set in his "hometown". CROSSING BROOKLYN is a modern musical that deals with the emotional aftermath of September 11th in New York City. With music by Jonathan Larson Award-winning composer Jenny Giering and book and lyrics by Emmy Award winner, and "The Pen Is a Mighty Sword" winner, Laura Harrington, CROSSING BROOKLYN tells the story of Des and AJ, a young, idealistic couple who are very much in love. They are both public school teachers bent on changing the world, one kid at a time. Laura Harrington's play "N" (Bonaparte) was a 2004 winner of VTP's The Pen is a Mighty Sword. Since then Laura and "N" have gone on a voyage of discovery with Kim Mancuso and Kermit Dunkelburg of The Pilgrim Theatre Company. "N" is published in the 2007 Winter/Spring edition of TheatreForum and well worth reading.
Playwright, Lauren Gunderson is coming into her own in 2007. She has received a commission from South Coast Rep in California to write a play for them. Her play, "Baby M" a 2006 VTP winner, was read at Actors Express on November 28th with great success! BABY M was read as part of The Magic Theatre's SCIENCE ON STAGE reading series in San Francisco September 14th. BABY M was also read by Kitchen Dog Theatre in Dallas, TX for this years Plays Under Progress Festival in June and will have a staged reading by members of VTP in Los Angeles.
